TIGER CHALLENGE Through the years, ISMA's tournament team competitors have brought home Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals in all levels of competition from local Regionals to U.S. Nationals. However, due to some major contributing factors such as: ISMA's curriculum being non-sport, a majority of ISMA students train in Saturday classes, and the declining number of local tournaments in our area; ISMA students enjoy participating in our own school tournament each year. Started in 2004, ISMA's exclusive school tournament, the Tiger Challenge, has rapidly become a student favorite. The Tiger Challenge is both fun and educational as competitors work toward achieving the top 3 places in each division earning them Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals. All competitors receive a competition certificate and a day of fun and challenges. ISMA students may compete regardless of rank, age, or skill level. Competitors are divided into age or weight divisions and then further sub-divided by experience for fair competition. All students may compete in Open Hand Forms, Weapon Forms, Shuai Chiao, and Weapon Sparring. In addition, more experienced students may compete in Open Hand Sparring. All of these skills are taught during regular training classes. Because competing or watching these tournaments broadens a student's training, ISMA regular classes are suspended on tournament dates. Students are encouraged to spend time at the tournament either in competition, volunteer work, or supporting competing classmates when at all possible.
