RANK TESTING
All students must be at least 17 years old before testing for Black Belt. Younger students do not have the physical ability to perform the required techniques with sufficient power or the mental ability to comprehend the principles of each technique for Black Belt level. ISMA does not teach a student to "mimic".

An ISMA is invited to test when his instructor feels he is ready to meet the challenge. Physical tests are preceded with a written test of knowledge. Students are taught to fully understand their techniques, principles of those techniques, and be able to physically perform them. We don't believe in "giving" a student a belt they have not earned, creating a false sense of security, or setting up a student to fail.
At testing time the student must demonstrate their ability at the level required for their new rank. The student learns that ranking is earned through achievement of skills and performance, rather than tenure.
A rank testing fee, designated by the level of rank, is due 2 weeks before the student's test date. A student, who does not pass a test but remains in the school, will retest without an additional testing fee.
